Griz2Griz Cord and Scholarship
Griz2Griz is a student philanthropy initiative designed to:
- Increase awareness that tuition revenue does not fully cover the cost of education.
- Educate students on the role of donor support in scholarships and student success initiatives.
- Establish an enduring tradition of giving among future alumni of the University of Montana.
- Build a student-supported scholarship that directly benefits future Griz.
The recognition cord serves as a visible symbol of leadership, gratitude and investment in the continued strength of the University community.
Regalia Cord Eligibility Requirements
To be approved to wear the Griz2Griz cord at commencement, a graduating student must:
- Make a qualifying philanthropic contribution to the Griz2Griz Scholarship Fund before the published commencement deadline. A qualifying gift includes a minimum one-time gift of $20.26 (annual class amount based on year of graduation).
- Have their gift processed and verified through the University of Montana Foundation before commencement.
- Be in good academic standing and eligible to participate in commencement ceremonies in accordance with University policies.
Griz2Griz Scholarship Impact
The Griz2Griz Scholarship Fund is a student-supported, forward-looking investment in the next generation of Grizzlies. Contributions made by graduating students directly support incoming University of Montana students – of any age – who demonstrate financial need.
This scholarship is designed to:
- Reduce financial barriers for new students beginning their academic journey at UM.
- Support access and opportunity for first-year Grizzlies, including traditional and non-traditional students.
- Create a meaningful connection between graduating students and those who follow in their footsteps.
Each gift represents a tangible act of paying it forward ensuring that future Grizzlies have the same opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at UM. Over time, the Griz2Griz Scholarhsip will stand as a powerful tradition of students supporting students. reinforcing a culture of philanthropy that begins before graduation and continues long after.
