UMAA Membership FAQ

Always feel welcome to email or call our office M-F, 8am – 5pm with membership questions. Some common inquiries are answered below.

Who can join UMAA?

All University of Montana and Missoula College graduates, as well as former students who have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits, are considered to be UM Alumni. Additionally, retirees, family and friends of UM, may become members of UMAA. Access to the Rec Center is a member benefit that does have restrictions, contact our office for eligibility concerns.

What is my Alumni ID?

Your Alumni ID is a unique number that is assigned to your record when your information is added to the official Alumni Database. This is different from the 790# you were assigned as a student. If you receive a hard copy of the Montanan magazine or travel mailings, your Alumni ID is often printed above your name on the address label. You may also request your ID simply by contacting our office.

Membership Cards

To request a plastic membership card, contact us via phone or email: alumni@umontana.edu

Your card should arrive within 2 weeks.

Are UMAA Members eligible for a Griz Card?

Yes! If you already have a Griz Card, you may be able to reactivate this card as the 790 ID number will remain the same. A new Griz Card may also be obtained for $20 at the Griz Card Office on the first floor of the UC. Contact them directly for more information.

Can UMAA Members use the Recreation Center?

Yes and no. Only UMAA Members who are Retirees or have Alumni status (must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits) are eligible for a Rec Center membership. A valid Griz Card and a Rec Center membership are required for access. Contact the Rec Center directly for rates and to inquire about guest passes for friends and family.

Do UMAA Members have access to the Mike and Maureen Mansfield Library?

Yes, UMAA Members may borrow materials on-site from the library. Use your Griz Card or a current, valid picture ID to check out library material. In-library database access is available on the public computer located on the main level. Remote online access is not available to UMAA members at this time. More details about library use can be found on their website.
