UM Alum Receives Award from International Sigma Chi Organization

Camden Capser is a believer in the power of Greek Life. He’s also an example of what you can achieve if you make the most of your time in Greek Life. The recent UM graduate and Billings is eager to tout the benefits of his time in Sigma Chi.
“If you want to get involved in an organization where you can learn leadership, network at some of the highest levels possible and focus on really cool initiatives and philanthropy, this is the place for you,” Capser says.
Capser joined Sigma Chi in the spring of his freshman year. He was drawn to the fraternity’s brotherhood and their mission to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, as his mother was facing her own cancer battle at the time.
“The guys were so welcoming and so motivated,” he said. “I knew it was a fit when they were supporting a cause so near and dear to my heart.”
He served as philanthropy chair and was then elected president. His duties included managing finances, housing, operations, and holding meetings with campus leadership and the Sigma Chi organization.
“It was almost like learning to manage a business while in college.”
His hard work supporting Sigma Chi didn’t go unnoticed. This year, Capser was presented with the International Balfour Award, bestowed annually on Sigma Chi’s most outstanding graduating senior. He’s the first from UM to ever receive the award. Capser is honored by the distinction and the opportunity to serve a two-year term on the Fraternity’s Executive Committee.
“It’s special because I felt like I had so many people looking up to me, and our alumni were telling me how excited they were,” he explained. “I get to have a voice for people that hadn’t had one in a while.”
Capser is grateful for the support network that Sigma Chi provided him with while at UM. This fall, he started earning his MBA at UM. He’s also working to launch his own company, a crowd-funding platform for organizations to fundraise- called Hustle Fundraise.
Looking back on his time as an undergraduate student, Capser is proud of his decision to say yes to new opportunities. He encourages anyone starting out on campus to do the same.
“Everything I said yes to helped me elevate my college experience and get me to where I am,” he said. “My advice is to just get out of your comfort zone because you never know the door it’s going to open.”
