"The Inevitability of Wildfires: Fire Ecology and Forest Management"
Synopsis: Andrew Larson will discuss the relationship between forest management and wildfires, including how management before a fire event can influence the occurrence, behavior and effects of wildfires, as well as the effects of post-fire salvage harvest and the role of wildfires in forest landscape management.
Andrew Larson is an associate professor of forest ecology in the W.A Franke College of Forestry and Conservation. His primary research interests include long-term change in forest ecosystems, especially as related to natural disturbance and forest structural development. He is particularly interested in the use of ecological theory to establish forest restoration targets and guide restoration treatment design.
